 BACKGROUND: The laboratory of Dr. Andrew D. Smith has two open positions for postdoctoral research associates to work in the area of Computational Epigenomics. We are involved in multiple projects to elucidate specific functions of DNA methylation, histone modifications and non-coding RNA in early development and cancer. Successful candidates will design new algorithms and statistical methods for analyzing large-scale data sets, with the aim of answering specific biological questions. The data analysis will involve massive datasets produced specifically for our projects and hold much promise for discovery. Successful candidates will require creativity in designing novel computational methods to meet the unique analytical challenges presented by emerging experimental methods.

REQUIREMENTS: * PhD in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Applied Math or Physics * Deep interest in solving biological problems * Solid programming skills and experience with C or C++ * Ability to work comfortably in a Unix/Linux environment

About Computational Biology and Bioinformatics at USC:

The USC program in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics is one of the earliest-formed such programs in the world. We have ten full-time Computational Biology professors with expertise covering a broad range of research topics. The program currently has approximately forty PhD students and postdocs.
